摘要
In the university English teaching, the vocabulary teaching plays a very important task, which is a fact that the teachers and the students have realized. However, because of the lack of the background knowledge brought about by the lack of the context, the mode of the traditional vocabulary teaching that interpret the vocabulary literally seems boring, stiff and awkward. Literary reading can offer great help for the vocabulary learning. Especially the reading on the classic English and American literature with the paragon, authority, temporal spirit and the transcendence of time and space as the characteristics not only enriches the English vocabulary, and enhances the learning interests, but also helps the students to deepen their understandings and application of the vocabulary. Therefore, the mode of university English vocabulary teaching based on the classical English and American literature reading has many advantages, which is worthy of discussion. The course of "English and American Literature" is a professional lesson of the English language and literature the Ministry of Education stipulated in 2000 in "The New Outline", which is a required course for the senior students of the English Majors in Chinese colleges and universities. It plays a decisive role in the development of students' intelligence, the enlightenment of their wisdom, and the cultivation of their innovative abilities and the humanistic qualities. However, the strong comprehension of the course, the great difficulty, the unobvious practical value and the interpretation of the "What I say goes" and "say civil solution word" by the teachers leads to the students to be terrified by the sight, and very high anti-education weariness. In view of this, many teachers and students simply talk about "uselessness of literature", and advocate "illiteralization" among other things. This is not the only one. Aiming at these problems, the interactive reading model is an effective way to teach "English and American literature". It can effectively avoid the phenomenon of "What I say goes" by the teachers in the teaching of English and American Literature, and can fully mobilize the initiative of the teachers and the students to achieve the curriculum objectives.
