摘要
Kinetics of oxidation of fursemide by alkaline permanganate was studied spectrophotometrically. Reaction was found to be first order in [permanganate] and fractional order in [fursemide]. The kinetics was independent on [OH(-)]. The added salt did not alter the rate of reaction. The oxidation products of fursemide were identified as furfuraldehyde and 4-chloro-2-amino-5-(amino-sulphonyl) benzoic acid. A suitable mechanism based on proton abstraction from the a-carbon atom of furfuryl moiety by permanganate was proposed as given below permanganate + fursemide (sic) complex complex (sic) free radical + manganate and other fast steps. Rate law was derived and verified. The equilibrium constant, K, and rate constant of the slow step, k, are evaluated and used to calculate the experimental rate constants.
