Analysis of downlink power allocation during soft handover in the CDMA system

摘要
Soft handover is a key feature of the CDMA system, while downlink power allocation among the active cells is a key issue in the soft handover, which would affect the soft handover performance greatly. In this paper, a mathematical model is proposed to analyze the power allocation problem. Besides, several improved power allocation algorithms are proposed, and they can be considered as the improvement of SSDT (Site Selective Diversity Transmit), or a compromise between the conventional power allocation scheme and SSDT. Based on the proposed mathematical model, simulation is performed to evaluate the power allocation algorithms. According to the simulation results, one of the improved algorithms, called VRT (Variable Relative Threshold) algorithm, shows the best overall system performance, and it is especially suitable for the CDMA system under high traffic load.
