摘要
Asynchronous learning relates to a particular approach to education that has been gaining momentum recently, specifically distance education. This incorporates feedback with direct responses from the student to the teacher, and wherein the information exchange and acquisition of new knowledge is mutual. Effective distance education programmes should start with careful planning and a clear understanding of students' needs and what the course requirements are. Distance education has become an inseparable component of the education landscape. In this paper, the author looks at the distance education knowledge structure and key learning tools, advantages and disadvantages of the system, as well as the impact that distance education has had upon engineering education, including laboratory work, design work, advanced programming and critical thinking. The author concludes that the use of a blended learning mode, if applied properly, would contribute added value to a programme of studies. Hence, the knowledge acquired in such courses of study would become more profound and better related to the real job environment.
