The synthesis of (S) 2-ethyl-2-methylpentanoic acid 13 from the C-5 aldehydo ester 1, obtained through a baker's yeast transformation via C-2 and C-1 chain elongations by means of olefin-forming reactions is reported. Copyright (C) 1996 Elsevier Science Ltd
