Ergebnisse fruherer Studien deuten darauf hin, dass das Mikrobiom der Atemwege mit dem klinischen Phanotyp, dem Schwergrad und der Langzeitmortalitat der chronisch obstruktiven Lungenerkrankung (COPD) zusammenhangt. Dabei konnte das Verstandnis des Atemwegmikrobioms und des entzundlichen Endotyps der COPD entscheidend zur Entwicklung mikrobiombasierter Diagnose- und Therapieansatze beitragen - bislang gibt es hierzu allerdings nur wenige Daten.
