Truncated Effect on the Reliability Index of Fillet Welds

Strength criteria of differently orientated fillet welds are discussed. An expediency to use in engineering practice the universal strength criterion adopted by International or Eupopean Organizations for Standardization is criticized. Shear strengths of transverse and longitudinal fillet welds and their test data are analysed. Primary and revised survival probabilities of these welds and their reliability indices are considered. The effect of truncated probability distributions of strengths in shear of fillet welds on their revised reliability parameters is investigated. The probability based assessment of primary and revised reliability indices of fillet welds is demonstrated by the numerical example.
