Near- and mid- infrared spectroscopy techniques were used to study the cure reaction of accelerated diphenyldimethylurea (Diuron) epoxy formulation based on diglycidyl ether of bisphenol A (DGEBA) prepolymer curing with dicyandiamide (DDA) hardener. This study was carried out using a classic Fourier transform infrared spectrometer generally available in many laboratories, and it revealed the possibilities and problems that occurred in quantitative analysis. Thus, new assignments in NIR range and light scattering influence for this heterogeneous system are studied. Molar absorption change and comparison of the epoxy conversion determined by NIR spectroscopy (4530 cm(-1) epoxy band), MIR spectroscopy (915 cm(-1) epoxy band), SEC, and chemical titration are then successively presented and discussed.
