Total electron scattering cross sections for fluoroform and trifluoroiodomethane

Total electron scattering cross sections for CF3H and CF3I have been measured in the energy range between 1 and 3000 eV using a linear-type electron transmission apparatus. The procedure that had been used for the determination of the total electron scattering cross sections was improved for polar molecules using the angular distribution of scattered electrons given by the Born theory and an assumed empirical formula. From the partially measured cross sections of electrons scattered into a narrow forward angle, several interesting results were obtained. The correlation between the experimental results and the molecular parameters was examined. The results were compared with the available theoretical and experimental data.
