Monitoring mental health disorder symptoms and behavioral problems of undergraduates in Sri Lanka using smartphone sensors

摘要
In the most proximate and mostly used accessory to everyday life, smartphones are crucial elements to capture behavioral data without the users' knowledge. Sri Lanka 's young undergraduates with mental diseases are unfamiliar with their disorders and symptoms. This study mainly aims to determine Sri Lankan young students' behavioral patterns and examine their mental health status as well as symptoms. The research concentrates on the reliability of the use of mobile sensors in mental health assessments. Data acquired in several methods, including daily sleep pattern inputs, auto identified IMEI number, data included in accelerometer and GPS sensors. And we collected just once information for the ground truth by providing a questioner before the study. Assessing the mental health status by using both active and passive mobile sensing technologies are led to get the advanced conclusions in the study. After extracting four features from the data acquired, we calculated the co-relation among the features and the ground truth. As a major conclusion we have got that, the smartphone sensors are effective when determining the mental health issues. Also it is a decision aid approach that can be used in the domain. Extracted co-relations showed that features like sleep pattern and location variance are highly related with mental health disorder symptoms.
