Reflection properties of infinite periodic arrays of rectangular conducting patches

Reflection properties of a planar infinite periodic array of rectangular, perfectly conducting patches in free space are analyzed. The analysis is based on modal formulations involving the Floquet theorem. Once the proper boundary conditions have been enforced, the resulting equations are solved using Galerkin's method. Entire-domain sinusoidal basis functions are employed for this purpose. The analysis is applied through numerical computations in which only the aspect ratios of the patches are varied. Consequently, the effects of changing aspect ratios can then be studied. The reflection properties considered in these computations are the variations of reflection coefficients with respect to parameters such as frequencies, TE incident angles, number of basis functions, and number of Floquet node terms.
