摘要
Medium voltage single-conversion Uninterruptible Power Supplies (UPS) are becoming increasingly popular thanks to their best in class efficiency. We developed an ultra-fast Utility Disconnect Switch (UDS) that allows single-conversion highefficiency UPSs to quickly disconnect the load from the utility grid during a power failure or power quality event and to route the power flow to an alternative source, such as batteries or supercapacitors. In this configuration, the UPS can reliably supply power to the load with efficiency higher than 99% and guarantee complete power transfer in less than 1 ms. This way, even sensitive loads with strict voltage tolerance requirements can ride-through without disturbances, as in IEC Std. 62040-3 Class 2. Due to the UDS fast and seamless power transfer, the load is unaffected by power failures and power quality events. Moreover, the modular configuration of the new UDS solution enables scalability at multiple voltage and power levels and redundancy.
