A new type of the blast furnace ventilation index intelligent instrument has been developed, which can make the condition and variation of blast furnace known quickly, directly and synthetically by measuring four relative parameters on-line and data processing and computing. In the meantime, according to it, the operators can make decision ahead of time in order to ensure safety, high-efficiency and high-output in production. The software and hardware structure of the instrument and its application in blast furnace safe and economical production are emphatically discussed in the paper.
