Beyond an economic model: Bringing social justice into early childhood education

Practices of Early Childhood Education (ECE) in Indonesia is highly influenced by the economic model that perceives education as a form of investment. This model links with a human capital discourse that situates ECE as a vehicle to achieve a country's economic growth. The purpose of this chapter is to problematise the model by arguing that the model has overlooked more critical issues in ECE such as social justice issues. It is expected that this chapter would serve as an invitation to rethink the current model for ECE in Indonesia.
