Feedback is the building block of assessment and an essential component of effective teaching. In this article, we will provide a comprehensive definition of feedback and a relevant conceptual framework for learning to explain how feedback can be used to improve performance. We will discuss the process of providing feedback, and the role teacher and learner can play to make it more effective. We will also examine the misunderstandings and pitfalls around feedback, as well as generational differences that may influence its impact. (C) 2019 Elsevier Inc. All rights reserved.
