Managementof haematological malignancies in the elderly needs more attention than in younger patients. While some of them can be proposed standard therapy with specific precautions such as colony-stimulating factors, a significant part of them needs a more thorough evaluation with geriatric instruments. The so-called comprehensive geriatric assessment (CGA) is necessary to indicate geriatric interventions. Vulnerable and frail patients will benefit from this approach to better equilibrate the risk/benefit ratio, which may be highly unstable. However, this approach is time-consuming, and screening techniques are being developed. Such questionnaires will be available soon. To cite this journal: Oncologie 13 (2011).
