As a result of industry compliance to safety standards for injection molding machines here in North America,thousands of machines operate providing a safe and healthful work environment for plastic industry workers. These safety standards for IMM were the result of a collaborative effort among machine manufacture's. This same collaboration is now required for the development of mold safety standards. Mold safety standards will create a safer environment for workers in our industry, and require those Moldmakers selling into North America to provide the same level of safety features. A variety of mold safety issues are described that are intended to be used as a starting point for discussions leading towards safety standards for molds in North America.
