摘要
The constrained nature of sensor node (SN) power sources limits the power consumption of a wireless sensor network (WSN). The energy efficiency of WSNs is therefore of great importance. In this paper a novel SN which was specifically designed for use in WSN test beds is presented. The design addresses shortcomings in existing SN hardware used in test bed environments. Each node is capable of measuring its own power consumption as well as remaining battery capacity. The SN design includes a battery charger to assist with node redeployment. Each SN is modular and can support a wide array of sensors and transceivers. Application areas include WSN test beds, data collection, automation and education. SN power consumption data are also presented.
