Composition, stability, and reactivity of cerium(IV) hydroxotartrato complexes in sulfate solutions

摘要
The formation and redox decomposition of cerium hydroxotartrato complexes in the Ce4+-SO42--H(4)Tart system was investigated spectrophotometrically, potentiometrically, and kinetically at an ionic strength I = 2 and pH 0.62-3.18 at 22-28 degreesC. Two types of complexes were identified: [CeOHTart](1-) and [(CeOH)(2)Tart](2+) The stability constants and the rate constants of intracomplex redox decomposition were determined for these complexes on the sulfate background. Evidence is shown that the redox process in the systems occurs by the intermediate mechanism through the formation of the aforementioned 1 : 1 and 2 : 1 complexes, which have identical reactivity.
