There has been a radical transformation in the surgical treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia in recent years with the arrival of different types of lasers. Transurethral resection of the prostate (TURP) and surgical adenomectomy (AVH) were the standard of care for small prostate (<80 cm(3)) and large prostate (> 80 cm(3)) respectively. The laser has led to the development of two types of adenoma management: vaporisation and enucleation. Both techniques are endoscopic, and the choice between the two depends on the type of laser available, and the habits and experience of the operator. These two interventions make it possible to obtain the same functional results with a lower perioperative morbidity. The duration of the catheterization, the duration of hospitalization and the blood loss are reduced, allowing even to be able sometimes to perform these interventions in ambulatory surgery.
