摘要
Kidney diseases constitute a major segment of the total burden of diseases and hence the pathology of this organ is of major importance. Among the various common disorders affecting dogs, urinary disorders are more frequent and renal diseases has been considered to be the most important cause of illness. Pyelonephritis is one of the common renal pathological disorder occurs in the dogs. For present study, a total of 234 kidney specimens of dogs showing frank macroscopic lesions were collected for histopathological examination. Pyelonephritis was recorded in 4.27 per cent cases. Grossly, the kidneys were congested with multiple pinhead sized, whitish-yellow, raised foci visible on the sub capsular surface. Microscopically, glomerular loops and Bowman's capsules were filled with polymorphonuclears along with few mononuclear cells and bacteria. Tubules contained cellular casts. Polymorphonuclear cells along with a few mononuclear cells were found in streaky collection in straight tubules. In cases with shrunken kidneys, extensive degeneration of tubules was observed. At places, tubulorrhexis showing neutrophilic aggregation in the wall and lumen were seen.
