Adsorption and desorption of nitro- and aminoaromatic compounds to mineral and organic surfaces

Sorption of 2,6-dinitrotoluene (2,6-DNT) and its reduction products 2-amino-6-nitrotoluene (2-A-6-NT) and 2,6-diaminotoluene (2,6-DAT) from aqueous solution to selected clay mineral and organic surfaces has been investigated to predict the fate of 2,4,6-trinitrotoluene (TNT) and its degradation products in soil. Equilibration time was determined and sorption isotherms were taken up. Desorption with water as only solvent has been investigated in batch and in percolation experiments. Another topic of these investigations was the influence of microorganisms. We showed that biological activation of a soil decreased adsorption of the tested compounds.
