摘要
The paper discusses the effects of foreign language anxiety on student performance in ESL learning. Language anxiety is defined and its causes are explained in the paper. Some of the causes explained include self-esteem, cultural difference, social status and presentation in classroom. The impact of anxiety on student's performance is discussed. The paper explains how anxiety affects key factors that are important in learning. These factors later affect learning because of anxiety. Factors discussed include concentration, social interaction, memory, health and beliefs. The paper gives a guideline on how a student can reduce the impact of anxiety in his or her performance. Such strategies include preparation, positive thinking and peer seeking.
