Analysis of thermal dissipation rates based on direct numerical and large-eddy Simulations of turbulent Rayleigh-Benard convection

摘要
Two functions sigma and tau are defined to determine quantitatively the role of the turbulent background in thermal convection. Evaluating these functions from the data generated in the Direct Numerical Simulations (DNS) and Large-Eddy Simulations (LES) of turbulent Rayleigh-Benard convection in wide cylindrical containers it is shown that the turbulent background contribution to the volume averaged thermal dissipation rate increases with the Rayleigh number.
