The investigation was carried out to study the effect of lactation stage on plasma metabolites (Glucose, cholesterol and urea) in Tharparkar cattle. The animals were grouped according to lactation stage (nonlactating, 1(st) half of lactating and 2(nd) half lactating). The results revealed that the blood glucose level was highest in non-lactating (group-I) animals and a marked decline in group-II (i.e. during 1(st) half of lactation) and then again a marked incline was observed in group-III (i.e. during 2(nd) half of lactation). Serum cholesterol was observed highest in group-II (i.e. during 1(st) half of lactation) and a non-significant fall in group-III. Lowest concentration in group-I while differ significantly (P<0.01) from remaining both the groups. The blood urea level increased significantly (P<0.01) with advancement of lactation stage. Group-Ill having highest blood urea level.
