Process-oriented plant layout design using a fuzzy set decomposition algorithm

摘要
In this paper a novel application of the concept of fuzzy sets theory to process-oriented plant design and layout is being discussed. The introduced algorithm uses the reasoning of fuzzy sets and judicially applies mass transfer from one machine to another as the criterion for deciding the appropriate position of the machine. As a thumb rule it considers that a machine from which maximum mass exchange occurs with other machines should be placed in the most easily accessible position, which is easily approachable from all associated machines. The algorithm also considers indirect mass transfer between machines.
