AN EMPIRICAL ANALYSIS OF THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT AND ENVIRONMENTAL POLLUTION IN HENAN PROVINCE, CHINA

After the reform and opening up, the economic growth in China has achieved world-renowned achievements. However, looking back at the process of the economic development, we have followed a path of economic growth at the expense of high investment in resources and environmental destruction, which has led to an increasingly tense relationship between the economy and the environment. We analyze and study how to improve the level of environmental protection, change our real -life situation of focusing on development and light pollution, and the tendency to rely solely on administrative fees to protect the environment, thereby promoting the harmonious relationship between the economy and the environment. This paper collects the economic and environmental data of Henan Province from 2000 to 2020, establishes an indicator system for economic development and environmental quality, uses principal component analysis to eliminate relevant indicators, and constructs an environmental Kuznets curve with characteristics of Henan Province to analyze the relationship between economic development and environmental quality in Henan Province. The results show that the environmental Kuznets curve of Henan Province conforms to the typical inverted U shape of developed countries, that is, environmental pollution does show a trend of rising first and then falling with the increase of per capita income.
