The sensitivity of the transient plane source (TPS) method (also known as the Hot Disk method) to small variations of a material's thermal conductivity and heat capacity was evaluated using a series of samples filled with polymeric microcapsules of different volume content. The results showed that, despite having a declared uncertainty of about 5% for its thermal conductivity measuring abilities, it is capable of detecting very low variations of thermal conductivity in similar samples.
