The localisation, distribution and function of peptides and their receptors in the Enteric Nervous System

摘要
In this short review we summarise the general organisation of the Enteric Nervous System (ENS) with the different functional classes of nerve cells and some aspects of their morphology, immunohistochemistry, pharmacology and electrophysiology. The distribution and possible function of the peptides and of their receptors in this neural system will be discussed. This reviewdeals mainly with the guinea-pig small intestine where most detailed information has been gathered.
