Carotid endarterectomy is the most frequently performed vascular procedure and is the treatment of choice for carotid artery stenoses. Stent-supported carotid angioplasty is being explored as an alternative to carotid endarterectomy. Preliminary experience indicates that carotid stenting therapies may provide a useful alternative for selected patients, although additional extensive studies are;required to establish the appropriate clinical application of this technique. This chapter discusses preliminary techniques and angiographic observations of stent-supported carotid angioplasty.
