In this experimental investigation, the mean structures of the impinging jet field are studied employing constant property surfaces of shear and change of volume flow rate at a spatial location in the jet field. Comparison of impinging jet field with that of free jet reveals stretching of shear layers in the free jet zone of the impinging jet field in the lateral as well as longitudinal directions. The flow reversal near the wall indicates reversal of flow close to the jet axis resulting in oscillatory flow over the wall.
