A study was conducted to demonstrate distributional Monte Carlo solution technique for rarefied gasdynamics. Distributed velocities were incorporated in a particle-based Monte Carlo scheme to address the problems associated with the direct simulation Monte Carlo (DSMC) method. This approach facilitated the replacement of stochastic collision modeling with deterministic approaches and demonstrated that this resulted in a significant variance reduction in comparison with DSMC. The effects of replacing the stochastic collision modeling techniques with a deterministic approach were considered, while retaining the stochastic collision selection criteria of DSMC. This approach was facilitated by allowing for distributed particle velocities, as directly employing deterministic collision modeling to singular velocities would created poor molecular dynamics simulation.
