摘要
This article emphasizes the importance of screening as a control strategy for sexually transmitted infections in developed countries. Targeting of screening programs to high risks groups increases cost-effectiveness. Clinical situations suitable for opportunistic screening, routine sampling, and laboratory testing techniques are described. The potential advantages of new screening methodologies to improve detection rates, especially in hard-to-reach populations are highlighted.
