The now existing relatively cheap technologies of stable isotopes production and quite simple technique of isotope analysis allow to speak about long-range application of isotope labels to determine an origin of various products for a number of special (for example military) or routine customs, boundary, exchequer and other purposes. It is amazing. why isotope labels have not yet found wide application for reliable identification which would completely eliminate the possibility of copying, imitation or faking various products. Any stable isotopes rare in nature can be used as the isotope labels. Approximately 50 stable isotope (from C-13, N-15, O-17 and O-18 up to rare isotope of lead) on be used for these purposes. Owing to large number of chemical elements there is an opportunity to introduce any label into any substance or object (including liquids - lubricant materials, fuel etc.). These substances can be put as thin layers, are entered into painting substances, or are added directly in constructional materials. It is practically impossible to reprocduce a label (even knowing its composition and having the necessary components) with the precisely same structure More ample opportunities are given by using simultaneously 3-4 isotope-modified elements with a discrete variation of isotope concentration of each of isotope of these elements. Theoretically there is an opportunity of assignment of an individual identification mark to each product issued in the world. Depending on a kind of a product, purpose of identification and used engineering, cost of a label and its drawing will make from several cents up to 100-1000 US dollars. It is possible to distinguish two essentially various basic fields of label's application: a) For identification of mass parties of cheap products, valuable papers, banknotes financial instruments, documents etc.; b) Application of isotope labels for small-scale and special products, including military engineering.
