摘要
The binary nature of symbiotic stars, consisting of a hot compact component and a mass-losing giant, is beyond discussion. In this contribution we discuss possible precursors and focus on the binaries in a post-AGB stage of evolution in which the system consists of a strongly evolved post-AGB object and a mostly unseen and unevolved companion. We list the most important characteristics of these systems and discuss the possible evolutionary connection with symbiotic binaries.
