The international association for research on service-learning and community engagement

In 2005, Shelley Billig issued a "Call to Action" for it new international research association (Billig, 2005). This was acted upon at the 2005 International Service-Learning Research Conference, and steps were initiated to create a professional association for the service-learning and community engagement research community. The International Association for Research on Service-Learning and Community Engagement (IARSLCE) has now been incorporated as a nonprofit organization, and a founding board of directors has been elected. Bylaws and other founding documents have been created, and the association is moving forward with strategy development and conceptualization of relevant programs and services to meet the needs of the members. The association's Web site is www.ResearchSLCE.org. The mission of IARSLCE is "To promote the development and dissemination of research on service-learning and community engagement internationally and across all levels of the education system" (IARSLCE, 2007).
