摘要
The Cape Canaveral Plant of the Florida Power and Light Company system has two 400 MW, oil and natural gas fired units. The units are 1960s vintage Foster Wheeler steam generators and General Electric turbine/generators. The plant is located on the east coast of Florida eight miles north of Cocoa. The plant uses salt/brackish water from the Indian River for cooling of the once-through condensers and the auxiliary equipment heat exchangers. The water of the Indian River is very nutrient rich and therefore supports a prolific marine growth. In order to combat the abundant marine growth experienced on the intake structures, circulating water pumps, water boxes, condenser tubes, etc., several investigations of anti-foulants were undertaken. The evaluations led to the conclusion that chlorine dioxide fed for two hours per day will maintain condenser performance objectives, will not produce environmentally unacceptable by-products and is cost-competitive with other alternatives.
