Economical design of compression members with hot-rolled I-sections by use of the κ-method

摘要
The main focus of the article is on the evaluation of kappa-values for compression members with hot-rolled I-sections. Based on numerically determined K-values the accuracy is reviewed and existing reserves are pointed out. In order to utilize this reserves besides the indication of the exact kappa-values a new buckling curve ab is recommended. The curve allows for typical column sections with h/b <= 1,2, so for structural application especially interesting cases, a more economical design as up to now.
