摘要：
Gravitational wave detectors on the ground will begin taking quality data next year (2003), and the space-based LISA detector is planned for launch in 2011. I review here the physics of gravitational waves and survey the expected astronomical sources, with a focus on LISA. Observations by LISA are particularly interesting for cosmology: they have the potential to measure the acceleration history of the universe back to redshifts of 4 or 5.
