摘要
An appropriate characterisation of a polluted site is a prerequisite for any further assessment and remediation of groundwater pollution problems. Unfortunately, Site Characterisation (SC) is often conducted superficially, by using just a little existing knowledge. Collection, systematisation and encapsulation of knowledge on SC are required to promote its use land consequently enhance SC). These tasks are very challenging (due to the interdisciplinary, semi-structured and case-specific nature of groundwater pollution problems), but still feasible (thanks to contemporary information technology). HyperText Markup Language provides a means to systematise and encapsulate large amounts of knowledge in an easily adaptable form. a prototype of Site Characterisation Module (SCM) has been developed and integrated into a Decision Support System (DSS).
