Leaf slices provide an inexpensive (free) material for illustrating several fundamental points about the biochemistry of photosynthesis and respiration. The experiments described here illustrate the effects of CO2-concentration, photon flux density and herbicides, but many other simple experiments can be devised to emphasise specific points about photosynthesis and respiration.
