Ureterosigmoidostomy and secondary Amyloidosis

The well known complications of ureterosigmoidostomy include stenosis of the ureterointestinal anastomosis, chronic infection, urolithiasis, electrolyte disturbances and an increased risk of colonic adenoma and adenocarcinoma. In this case report, 52 years old male patient with history of bladder exstrophy treated with cystectomy and ureterosigmoidostomy 33 years ago and renal failure for 5 years was presented. AA amyloidosis was found to be responsible for the generalized edema and hypoalbuminemia of the patient. With this case presentation, we report for the first time, AA amyloidosis is also one of long term complications of ureterosigmoidostomy.
