Environmental changes affect the Streptomyces levoris zone-forming colonies

摘要
Environmental changes are recorded on the surface of Streptomyces levoris colonies during sporogenous aerial mycelium formation, just as in the age-related structures of higher animals and plants. The periodicity of zone formation was shown to vary regularly with the time of inoculation, season, and as a result of rapid transmeridional movements. The growing apical membrane of the substrate mycelium hyphae appears to record the environmental changes as changes in the zone of formation periodicity.
