Tunneling effects in d-wave superconductors

We have clarified several novel features of tunneling effects in d-wave superconductors. In normal metal/insulator/d-wave superconductor junctions, a microscopic theory of tunneling conductance is presented and the origin of the zero-bias conductance peak, which is often observed in experiments, is clarified. The relation between tunneling conductance and local density of states is also obtained. In a d-wave superconductor/insulator/d-wave superconductor junction. the anomalous temperature dependence of maximum supercurrent and free energy minima are obtained. In some cases, time reversal symmetry is broken spontaneously and a supercurrent is induced which flows parallel to the interface.
