On the importance of mentalizing in psychoanalytic treatment. Some comments on Dieter Tenbrink: "Some considerations on modes of psychoanalytic thinking and psychoanalytic attitude"

Dieter Tenbrink's assertions are summarized and discussed in the light of contemporary conceptions. The important role of mentalization theory in today's inter-subjective psychoanalysis is demonstrated in relation to Tenbrink's theses. Taking into account the concepts of insecure internal working models of attachment, mentalization deficits and epistemic distrust leads us to a modification in our understanding of patients with a less integrated level of structure in their personality.
