This study, focused on the painting of the Golden Age, considers the threshold as a metapictorial crucible that allows the artist to stage himself and invite the viewer to cross and then go beyond the two-dimensional frame of the painted canvas, as with El pintor pobre, by Jose Claudio Antolinez (1670) or the self-portrait of Bartolome Esteban Murillo (1670).
