3D flutter analysis of long-span cable-supported bridges with full-mode techniques

摘要
The present paper involves the 3D numerical analysis in the frequency domain to determine the flutter instability considering the participation of full natural modes of vibration which are particularly important for long-span cable-supported bridges. This flutter analysis method using the linear expression of unsteady aerodynamic forces formulates an asymmetric complex eigenvalue problem including entire natural modes and representing all potential flutter oscillation, but only solves several characteristic roots which contain the most important one(s) corresponding to the lowest flutter speed. Some numerical examples are given to show the effectiveness of the full-mode approach by comparing the results from other numerical procedures and wind tunnel tests.
