Xylazine-Ketamine anaesthesia in lions

摘要：
The combination of the (alpha(2)- adrenergic agonist Xylazine HCI and the cyclohexane, Ketamine HCI has been used to immobilize / anaesthetize wild carnivores like lions. These drugs usually result in a smooth induction and recovery. The pressor and cataleptic effects of Ketamine HCI are being ameliorated by the depressor, sedative and myorelaxing effect of Xylazine HCI. One draw back of this combination however, is the extended recovery or prolonged sedation, which is attributed to Xylazine HCI. This study was on Xylazine - Ketamine anaesthesia in lions (Panthera leo).
