The influence of purr formation in milling on the optimum selection of cutting parameters

摘要
The elimination, or at least the reduction, of machining burrs can lead to a higher quality component and reduced production costs. This paper reports on relevant results from a study of burr formation in square shoulder face milling and discusses how a knowledge of the burrs produced can assist in the selection of optimum cutting parameters. The main cutting parameters considered include those related to the milling cutter such as diameter, nose geometry and material as well as the cutting variables of axial depth of cut, radial width of cut, feed/tooth and cutting velocity.
