摘要
Internet of Things (IoT) is a network of connected things. The principle of IoT can be used in the educational system for promoting the interaction, for example, between students and teachers. Using different electronic devices, the internet, and learning platforms, it is possible to include interactive educational activities in the classroom. The purpose of this paper is twofold. First, proposes a formal definition of Internet of Education (IoEd), and second, proposes an empirical model for IoEd based on the principles of IoT. This paper analyses relevant articles about IoT especially linked to education and introduces a case study of the use of a free game-based learning platform as a learning tool. Using the main characteristics of IoT and the particularities of education, a formal definition for IoEd is proposed. Also, based on the analysis of secondary information about IoT and education, an empirical model is proposed, which is finally validated using the case study. This research is valuable because it introduces for the first time the idea of IoEd, proposes a formal definition for IoEd and an empirical model for its application.
